a. Sebagai subjek
e.g : - Sleeping
in the classroom is my hobby.
- Loving can be felt by every
human.
- Spending the time with you is the greatest thing ever.
b.
Sebagai objek.
Sebuah gerund yang berada pada posisi
objek adalah gerund yang mengikuti kata-kata berikut :
Enjoy, appreciate, mind, quit,
finish, stop, avoid, postpone, delay, keep, consider, discuss, mention, suggest.
e.g : - I enjoy talking to my roommate.
- Ali stops loving Fatimah.
- Do you mind leaving me alone?
c.
Penggunaan gerund sebagai objek preposisi (setelah preposisi).
e.g : - We’re
talking about spending our holiday
in Sabang.
- I
am really sorry for doing so many
mistakes.
-
Thanks for being a great friend,
indeed.
d.
Penggunaan gerund setelah preposisi khusus untuk
beberapa kata yang diikuti oleh preposisi ‘to’
( fungsi to disini sebagai preposisi
bukan bagian dari infinitive).
e.g :
- Anna is used to doing the homework together with her
friends.
- I accustom to sleeping
with the window open.
- I look forward to having
your reply, soon.
- They object to changing
their plans.
e.
Penggunaan gerund dalam kalimat negative.
e.g : - We consider not doing those stupid things anymore.
- Ramiz
thinks about not continuing his study in Aceh.
f.
Penggunaan gerund setelah go.
Penggunaan Go + gerund biasanya digunakan untuk
aktifitas rekreasi.
e. g : - I’m
going to go hiking next week.
-
Let’s go fishing this afternoon.
- Ketty went window shopping just morning.
